Thinkday - Christmas Isn't Coming

Merry Christmas! I for one love this time of year. I love that people remember that everyone is a person, complete with feelings, needs, and wants. I love how people freely give of their time and substance to show appreciation for those in their lives, and how people will give to complete strangers in their time of need. Instead of writing my thoughts on Christmas I decided today to share a short story I recently wrote.  I hope you enjoy this special time of year. Take a few minutes to reflect on the good things in your life, and how you can enrich the lives of others. Again, Merry Christmas!

Story Time!

Last week I asked my friends on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter to help me come up with a story to write over the weekend. The following is the result, 3 hours of writing and over 2,000 words later. I hope you all enjoy it...even though Halloween is now behind us.

Ghost Stories

Harvey looked down the dark, silent hall to his right; soft light shown like a desert oasis every 100 feet from the emergency lights overhead.  It was the same to his left, behind him, and in front of him. He wasn’t sure how, but Jordan High School looked more threatening and foreboding at 1:00am with the lights off, than during the day while students roamed the halls.

Thinkday – It is That Time Already?

I was driving to work this morning and realized we are nearly halfway through October. That’s right. October…almost November. I don’t know about anyone else, but I blinked and missed summer this year. I played one, that’s right one, game of golf, and it was in May. I still occasionally write 2010 on forms and checks. Could we really be almost done with 2011?

Thinkday – Why Don’t Representatives Represent Us?

Those of you who know me well know I am a pretty rational guy. Politically I consider myself a moderate, choosing to vote based on individual analysis of people and issues. While it is true I may lean slightly to the left, I would never consider myself a conservative Republican, nor a liberal Democrat.

One thing that has always puzzled me is how often I hear the words “I wish Washington represented the people.” These are supposed to be OUR elected officials who will take our will to the city, state, or federal level to make sure our society functions as WE see fit. But often we end up with representatives who seem to pander to special interest, or lean a bit, to be blunt, on the fanatic and crazy side.

Thinkday – The Death of a Terrorist

Last week I mentioned I would be speaking on my views of insurance and credit, and how they drive prices up, but after Sunday’s news of the death of Osama bin Laden I have to push back that topic to focus on this one.
